How many times a day can you Neti Pot when you're congested? I'm getting huge headaches several times a day from built up sinus pressure. But I don't want to damage my nose or make things worse by doing it too often. So far I've only done it at night but I am sure my sinus could use it 1 or 2 more times a day until the clear out.

Thanks!

My instructions say sometimes 3-4 times a day can help when you are sick.

I second, but also did a double load here and there when I was really congested because I barely got anything out the first few times.

are you supposed to SEE stuff come out? I mean besides water? I've seen the odd...*sigh* floaty of mucous...but not much else...I mean I am so congested that my ears are plugges(2.5 weeks now :( ) and maybe I need to neti more to get it out??

I don't see anything but water come out, but then when I finish with one side and do a gentle blow out you can get all sorts of nasties if you are sick.

Do read all the directions because if you don't dry the nasal passage properly you could get water in bad places.

Also, be careful when you are sick that water doesn't trickle down your throat and out your mouth. This is a technique you can use later, but if you are all clogged up it can pass the infection into your throat.

This accidentally happened to me last month and I lost my voice for a few days.

Well my husband was the one making it for me, so he read all the "how to" directions in terms of the "recipe" but as to how to use it, I went online and googled it and watched some u-tube videos and decided to buy it and then looked at the picture diagrams with step by step instructions on how to. The video was very useful...they showed how to bend over and stretch and blow the water out your nose again.

And my throat is already sore...in fact that was my first symptom, so thats not really an issue. Besides I have a fair amount of (sorry) post nasal drip when I wake up in the morning...so its already heading that way even without my help. but thanks for the warning just in case!

This link briefly explains how to dry the nose in case your instructions didn't mention it: http://www.jalanetipot.com/how_drying.html Your sinus headache will be much worse is water stays trapped up there.

Good luck!

I have found that when I am very congested I cannot always get the water to flow. But the water is up there, so it's helping to break up some of the gunk. Sometimes I need to do more than one pot and I can get things going.

I didn't even read the instructions beyond measurments. Pathetic!! My first instinct was to ask here!! But then real life users would know by trial and error what the company might not tell you. so maybe I'm not so pathetic ;)

thanks!!

I do mine twice a day, although when my allergies are acting up I could see doing it more, just so last as you're careful not to use too much salt.

I've only just started using it for this purpose...so its only a sinus thing(but I could totally see continuing...it feels so...clean!!)

my husband has been mixing it for me and he's been measuring evertyhing out...its cute to see. anyway thanks...I'm glad to know it won't hurt to do it a few times during the day and hopefully get rid of this.

I've used mine up to 4 times a day for allergies/colds. I suspect after awhile you might risk drying yourself out, but it would take some effort.

As far as seeing things - most of the mucus that comes out of my sinuses is clear (good indication of healthy sinuses) and I don't see it. Green, yellow, gray, or bloody mucus is a sign of other things going on (like viruses, irritants, or sinus infections).

I found that it took a few days to really see the total effect from the neti pot (when I started, I got sinus infections on the order of once a month), but once it kicked in, it was great! I love my neti pot. =)

I am a recent convert...gave in as a last resort from this cold and I love it!! After using it the first time(I had been horrible stuffed for 2 weeks at that point) I could actually taste things after and it was amazing. I used it 2 times before bed on 2 nights and then left it without for one day and did I regret it. It almost felt like all the hard work from the 2 other times was wasted. So...now I did 2 more days and i will start doing it 3-4 times a day until this cold as cleared up. I just didn't want to dry it out as you mentioned.

So far only water and a few tiny bits of clear mucus has come out. and any other mucus has been clear too...so nothing infection wise but just...lots of it. Thanks!!!
