Birth control, low libido and maca root

Hello! I have searched all the memories and the rest of the internet and have conflicting answers to my questions. I am on the pill and experiencing low sex drive, no surprise there. A lot of people suggest maca root to boost interest, etc but is it safe to use while on the pill? I don't want to diminish the effectiveness of the pill, we don't want kids just yet. Many message boards and articles say sure and some of them say no. I'm looking for anyone with experience using maca while on the pill (tell me you didn't get pregnant!) or a good source I haven't found yet. Thank you!!

Have you considered switching your form of birth control? I had a paragard for almost three years and I loved it.

I had the same issue. My sex drive seemed to vary depending on the particular pill but it usually was pretty nonexistent. I hadn't looked up any type of supplement or anything but decided to switch to the mirena as the hormones would be more localized an I thought that might be better. And since getting it in October it's been such a difference! I know that wasn't what you were asking and I do hope you find answers for what you are looking for. But I wish I had known that an iud was an option even though I'd never been pregnant.

I wish my insurance covered one. My doctor said she be willing to try even though I haven't had children but my insurance only covers a small % which makes it not worth it for us at this time. But thanks for the suggestion!

Aw that sucks about your insurance. :( There might be payment plans or other ways of getting an iud though.Though I honestly have no info on any of that. My insurance covered 95% of it and I paid a total of $68 so I didn't bother researching all the different ways of getting one. You can check out the iud_divas community. They were a great resource when I was looking into it!

Otherwise I'd probably either try a different pill or use condoms while trying out the maca root "just in case".

Even the Mirena killed my sex drive. I loved it every other way tho, so take that with a grain of salt.
I tried a couple of different things to boost my sex drive, and one really odd thing I found was called figging. When you google it, you're going to find a bunch of BDSM websites, so don't be alarmed. Figging gained popularity with the victorians as a spanking aid. You insert a piece of fresh, peeled ginger root into the anus and it makes the spanking hurt more. (/cool (back)story bro) What they also discovered is that it increases blood flow to the genitals, thus making arousal happen faster and more dramaticly. I've used it vaginally as well, with positive results. VERY postitive results. ;-) My husband said the ginger smell and taste was quite present, but not off putting.

If your sex drive is low, I would talk to the doctor about trying different birth control. Even switching brand of pill can make a huge difference. Prior to having my daughter I was on a pill that had zero side effects for me, including libido because my husband and I had sex practically every day (and I'm not ashamed to admit that more than half the time I would be the initiator!). After my daughter, the same pill was horrible. No sex drive, digestive issues, acne. It took four tries, but I'm finally back on a pill that has me feeling normal again. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor about the side effects you're having and if they're not willing to work with you until you find what does work for you, then get a new doctor.

Thankfully she is completely understanding and we have tried two so far, I think. The hard part is balancing what is stress in my life and what is the pill affecting my drive. I'm looking for a small boost in the supplement department since I know its not 100% the pill. I think if the next new pill doesn't work, I'll remember it took you 4 tries to find the right one! So nice to know there are others that suffer(ed) with this issue :)

i've love maca and definitely think it helps tremendously with energy including sexual energy. i also love my paragard (copper IUD) i had the mirena for about 8 months and switched to paragard bc of side effects with mirena. also even though the mirena is an extremely low dose of hormone, my body felt constantly bloat and blah and my energy went way down. pill form of birth control gives you a placebo week but with the mirena you never get a break, just a constant low dose of hormone. i think it's healthy to have variation in hormone for me. but yes to maca and no i didn't get pregnant :)

I found maca powder caused me to break out with bad blackheads and acne on my cheeks. I don't take the pill, however, fucks with my hormones, libido, and emotional stability too much.

Have you considered rhodiola rosea root for sex drive and energy?

Actually, I just started taking that. It got such rave reviews on Vitacost and Amazon that I couldn't wait to start it. I'm waiting to really start seeing results but thanks for the recommendation!
