Root Canal pain

I had a root canal done yesterday and wasn't prescribed anything for the pain. I was told to take OTC painkillers for any discomfort. Motrin was specifically mentioned, but I am only able take tylenol due to a digestive disorder. Tylenol is not helping.

I had a partial root canal done a few weeks ago by a different dentist, and he gave me a few vicodin for that. I have some left over, but I'm trying to use them wisely and sparingly, especially since I can't call and ask him to prescribe me more until Monday. Besides, I just took the ineffective tylenol about an hour ago, which means I have to put up with this pain for another four hours before I can take vicodin. I have tried applying ice, but the pressure makes it hurt more. Is there anything else I could use to numb the pain even a little bit?
