Tin vs. Cardboard

I'm planning to start an online business and naturally want it to be as eco friendly as possible. That of course means avoiding plastic containers. The most practical alternatives are cardboard or tin.

Cardboard is of course biodegradable, but I'm concerned about the effects on natural forestation, old forests being cleared and made into tree farms. Tin can be recycled but not of people may or may not choose to. More important, the mining process can devastating.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

I would check into FSC or similar certified cardboard - as high a percent as possible - or a high recycled paper percentage, plus unbleached, etc. to limit chemicals. Granted, it depends what you're packaging. There may be other alternatives such as hemp, etc. that could work as well, but I don't know the trade-offs for paper alternatives.
