hi folks, I searched the memories but didn't see much on this...
I got the the stomach flu last Tuesday, promptly puked and rid my body of anything in it from both ends if you know what I mean.
Since, then I've been able to eat some things, applesauce, eggs, bread, fruit.
Everything still goes out in a quick bowel movement, so I don't know if I'm getting nutrients. I still feel "off" and sort of weak. I feel ok otherwise though (no fever or anything).
I'm wondering what sorts of herbs/vitamins/foods I should be taking to get my strength back?

It sounds like you're already eating a lot of the recommended foods

I've heard something like bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast works (BRAT). Not so sure about vitamins and minerals... most important is keeping fluids in if at all possible.

crackers and soup till your stomach is stable.

Live and active cultures Yogurt 2-3 times a week to recolonize the body.
If you have diareaha that wont stop, try yogurt

I also use BRAT, like suggest earlier . I would shy away from meat, fats, and dairy... other that yogurt, which replishes the healthy bacteria in the digestive tract.

I recently had a similar bout with the flu, so i feel your pain! I had to stop taking my vitamins for a while because they upset my tummy... but i've been bulking up on juice and fruit instead.

hope you feel better soon.

I have had to do the BRAT thing too. I had to do it for about 4 days because I got so sick one Friday afternoon....

probiotics are useful after diarhea to re-establish a good balance of intestinal bacteria to help you digest food.

fresh vegetable juice is loaded with vitamins and minerals and you'll absorb it really quickly and easily, but the v8 juice and other stuff like it in a can or bottle is too salty and not as great. fresh is best. fruit juice is great too. this way you can give your intestines a break for a while and get your vitamins and your liquids all in one shot.
happy healing. :)
